Haines is reputed to have the world's largest population of bald eagles. The town itself has a people population of fewer than 1,500. The local Chilkat Indian Dancers treat visitors to native history performances at the Chilkat Center for the Arts. Also on Haines is a recreation of the gold rush town of "Dalton City".
