Skagway, Alaska is located on the Inside Passage and is a popular port of call.  Skagway has done everything possible to restore itself to it's 19th century charm - to the extent of adding false-fronted buildings and wooden sidewalks, when necessary.  Skagway is easy to walk and a shoppers paradise for high-end local arts,crafts, and jewelry.

The Skagway Convention and Visitors Bureau is a novelty itself being built with over 20,000 sticks of driftwood.  History buffs will want to take the historic walking tour of Skagway. The Golden North Hotel built in 1898 is still operating and runs a popular pub and Red Onion Saloon. 

Learn about the Klondike Gold Rush at Klondike Gold National Historical Park Visitor Center.  Take a ride through winding granite mountains, gorges, and tunnels on The White Pass and Yukon Railroad which follows the path the goldminers took in search of Klondike Gold at Dawson's Creek.  You can pan for gold at the Gold Rush Trail Camp.

Hikers can enjoh a 1-2 hour hike from Skagway to Lower Dewey Lake.  Frontier Excursions offers a 3 or 6 hour excursion taking in Long Bay, Dyea, Chilkoot Trail, White Pass Summit, Bennett, Tagish and Tushi lakes, Carcross, silver mines and Bove Island, as well as the breathtaking West Creek hanging glacier.  Take a helicopter or dogsled.  Bicylers will want to downhill along the White Pass Klondike gold route.

Seek out Alaska's trademark dishes Alaskan king crab and strip loin of elk.
